What company makes the best Build & Price/Configurator tool?
For me, it’s Porsche, hands down. They have interesting cars with lots of trims and options for each. The best I’ve heard it described was the “super mall of car configurators.” I could literally spend an entire day playing with it.

Definitely VW. Hands down the best configurator on the whole internet.

I like VW’s, but it can’t hold a candle to Porsche’s IMO. They have some options, but not enough for me. I like to play arums with different options, and Porsche offers everything a la carte.

I was kidding about VW haha. VW and Mazda have the worst IMO. Porsche’s is good , Chevy is probably the easiset and most user friendly.

I think Audi’s configurator is pretty good.
I like BMW and Mercs as well.

Porsche and BMW are my two favorites. Porsche has by far the best 3D builder since it uses the web version of the Unity engine for fully rendered environments, but BMW has the second best 3D builder out there for showing all of those details.

Chevy seems to be unreliable and crashy (har har) I’ve had many a build lost in grey screen purgatory thanks to wanting to do something like see what the standard equipment is.

BMWs is the best IMO. Every time I hear about how awesome Porsche’s is, I go and use it and am underwhelmed for some reason.

BMW with the release of the first gen MINI. Dealerships would hand out a CD-ROM with a configuration program on it and you could do SO much with it. Change colours, head units, interior accessories, exterior accessories, bodykits, you name it, it almost certainly had it. And all your changes would be presented in cinematic shots. Not bad for 2004. I spent hours as a kid building MINIs on that.

They’re both really good, but I think Porsche’s is better solely because they have way more options, most of which you actually get to see on the car, like clear taillights, glass sunroof, etc.

McLaren has a much-improved one, although it’s sometimes admittedly buggy. Ford’s has been quite good for about the last decade. Suzuki had a good one when they were still around, on that it was simple but had options to explain everything in almost too much detail.

The Bentley tool is good. Not the best, but visually of very high quality and you can download a pdf brochure of your car at the end.
There’s something special about configuring what you know would be a hand-built machine.

Well, most car companies don’t sell a product as configurable as BMW, Audi, Mercedes and Porsche. Online at least.
Even with Mercedes and BMW, they have a seperate line of signature something where you can get more colors and interior options. For that, the website requests you to get in touch with a dealership.
So the competition is really quite limited.
With Bentley, Rolls Royce, Bugatti, Ferrari, etc, you can literally get anything you want. The extent of the choices and options eccentric rich people go for can’t be captured in a website....
But maybe all of this is a good thing. We’ve reached a point where car manufacturers cater to every small need and even let us go “off the menu” even for cars around $50k...

Subaru has the worst. The exterior colors look nothing like the real colors. And until they split the WRX from the Impreza line, the configuration would display a base Impreza hatchback whenever you built an STI sedan.
